My Story

My name is Heather, I’m originally from Yorkshire, and a keen maker & baker since childhood. I love making and sharing food with my friends & family. 

Many many moons ago I had a cafe in Ambleside in the English Lake District. It was only little so my partner and I wore every hat as there was no room for a dishwasher or extra staff. We made thousands of breakfasts, lunches and evening meals and tired ourselves out before we decided to change careers. We made lots of lifelong friends and had a lot of laughs along the way, but it was time to try something else. 

Since those humble beginnings I’ve had my own holiday letting company and then completed a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering. Unfortunately, my last job involved working in a room without windows or natural daylight which was not for me. I’d seen other cake cupboards opening across the UK and followed their stories on social media. A little seed began to grow, germinating eventually into me starting my own bake shed in May 2025. Originally I’d planned to do this whilst working part time, but the company I worked for were not supportive so the bake shed has become my full time job. After lots of requests I now sell my bakes online too. I absolutely love it. That said, it’s not easy. The inner voices tell me I won’t sell anything, that no customers will come and that I can’t do it. Thankfully, my family and friends have been beyond supportive and encouraging. The customers have said the loveliest of things and keep coming back and the bake shed has got busier every week, so I must be doing something right :)
